Ilya and Emilia Kabakov : Paintings about Paintings Dallas Contemporary
Working together as a husband-wife team for the past three decades, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov have defined and pushed Eastern European conceptualism to epic levels. Their large scale installations and paintings seamlessly merge both reality and myth to create hyper-theatrical environments.By intergrating the visual culture of the former Soviet Union from the 1950's to '70s into the traditional lexicon of art history, their work addresses universal ideas of utopia, fantasy and hope, as well as fear and opression.
This catalogue details their exhibition of Paintings about Paintings at Dallas Contemporary composed of never before seen work shown from 2021 September-2022 March.
