Maria Siniakova created this artwork during World War I. Although her native Kharkiv region wasn't affected, she -unlike many other artists-still experienced anxiety about it. Syniakova spent most of the war years in her native village, Krasna Poliana,with other artists who had decided to leave the big cities. Syniakova's art was influence by traditional icons on glass .
